R&D and Technology

Mission of R&D

The Mitsui Chemicals Group strives to create innovative technologies to achieve "Economic Growth", "Harmony with the Global Environment" and "Harmony with Society".

Mitsui Chemicals develops technologies and materials harmonizing with the global environment while maintaining competitive advantage in its six business domains: the Petrochemicals, the Basic Chemicals, the Polyurethane, the Functional Polymeric Materials, the Fabricated Products, and the Functional Chemicals Materials, in order to ensure the growth and expansion of the Mitsui Chemicals Group.

In addition to obtaining and maintaining superior levels of R&D competitiveness that serves as a driving force behind the Group’s growth, it aims to aggressively address global issues such as global warming and the fossil fuel shortage, while creating innovative new technologies harmonizing with the global environment.

Integration of Knowledge

Linking Researchers throughout the World, the Group actively engages in exchange programs with major universities inside and outside Japan and hosts international symposia to pursue objective evaluations, guidance, and advice regarding its R&D activities. In addition to conducting joint research aimed at creating business opportunities, Group researchers also present their results at academic conferences, publish papers in academic journals, and hold international symposia in the fields of catalysis science and advanced materials. The Group has established the “Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award” since 2004 with the aim of contributing to the sustainable development of chemistry and the chemical industry.

The Mitsui Chemicals Group continues to support the sharing of scientific technology through a “Global Science Network” of leading researchers worldwide beyond borders of industry, academia, and government. By integrating knowledge, the Mitsui Chemicals Group constantly pursues innovation and materialization of dreams through the wonders of chemistry.

With the Sodegaura Center serving as the cornerstone in its R&D organization, the Mitsui Chemicals Group's three locations in Chiba (Sodegaura, Ichihara, Mobara) have been called the "Mitsui Research Triangle" and work on research and development for realizing innovative results in a forum for creative collaboration and experience sharing. Researchers from diverse backgrounds and with different approaches actively share opinions and ideas to create new technologies and new materials.
