Overview

Hi-Wax comprises a low molecular weight polyethylene (PE) manufactured by direct polymerization, a technique developed by Mitsui Chemicals Inc. on the basis of Ziegler polymerization technology and low molecular weight polyolefin made by a thermal cracking process.

Hi-Wax is more stable in quality than other synthetic and natural waxes and a wide variety of grades are commercially available. So, these grades are being used for a broad range of applications, including those in high-technological areas such as toners for plain paper copying and film condensers as well as traditional uses inclusive pigment dispersants, slip agents and mold release agents for the molding of various synthetic resins, modifiers for printing ink and paints, aids for textile treatment, etc.

Each grade of Hi-Wax possesses distinguished characteristics which can effectively function by their proper use.

An assortment of various types of Hi-Wax: High-density polymerization type, low-density polymerization type, acid-value type, acid-modified type, special monomer-modified type, low-density PE-cracked type and PP-cracked type.

Along with properties such as releasability, viscosity adjustment, compatibility, slip properties and surface modification properties, more than 30 grades are opening up the possibilities of their use in new fields through proper use of these properties and grades.

Hi-Wax is very stable quality compared with that of natural and synthetic waxes, so that our wax is widely applicable to various uses in many areas.

What is wax?
  • Solid / semisolid and brittle organic substance at room temperature.
  • Low melting point (less than 150℃) and low melt viscosity.
  • Crystalline and low molecular weight (300-10.000) resin.

CHARACTERISTICS

Higher crystallinity

Higher melting and softening points compared with natural and other synthetic waxes.

Excellent heat resistance and thermal stability
Excellent chemical resistance and electrical insulation properties.
Good affinity to polar polymers, inorganic chemicals and metals.
Easy to pulverize.

APPLICATIONS

Pigment dispersant, release agent for injection molding, abrasion resistance of printing ink, textile treatment agent, slip agent for PVC and release agent for toner.

Classification

High-density type: High hardness and softening point owing to high density and crystallinity.

Low-density type: Low density and crystallinity, which are attributable to low hardness and softening point.

Acid-value type: Good affinity to polar polymers, inorganic chemicals, metals etc. Emulsifiable (High acid-value grades).

Acid-modified type: Reactive with alcohols, amines, isocyanates, oligomer having epoxy group etc.

Special monomer modified type: Good miscibility with polyethylene and aromatic hydrocarbon resins such as PS, ABS and polyesters.

Thermally cracking low-density polyethylene type: Extremely low crystallinity. Good miscibility with other resins.

Thermally cracking polypropylene type: Raised softening points and high hardness. The highest melting point.

Applications

Pigment dispersant
Uses

Add Hi-Wax and pigment to the three-roll-mill to make up color base.

Availability

It is possible to manufacture high content color masterbatches because Hi-Wax is compatible with pigment and expresses excellent kneading behavior into the higher shear of the extruder.

Recommended grades

PE/PP: NL200, NL800
PVC: 325MP, 4202E
PS/ABS: 1160H

Pigment dispersant
Pigment Dispersant
Slip agent for PVC
Uses

Add PVC powder, stabilizer, calcium, calcium stearate and Hi-Wax to the twin screw extruder.

Availability

It is possible to express excellent slip properties and prevent from degradation of PVC, because Hi-Wax affects between the surface of the molder and melting PVC.

Extrusion: Saving power consumption and increasing productivity.
Injection: Improving the appearance of the molding.

Recommended grades

Rigid PVC (pipes, fittings), soft PVC (wire, cable and sheets): 220MP, 4202E

Slip agent for PVC
Pigment Dispersant
Release agent for toner
Uses

Add binder resin, pigments, CCA (charge control agent) and Hi-Wax to the kneader, then pulverize to make up toners.

Availability

It is possible to give anti-offset to a fixing roll because Hi-Wax can be formed wax lubricant film on the fixing roll.

Recommended grades

NP055, NP105, NP505

Release agent for toner
Release Agent for Toner
Textile treatment agent
Uses

Disperse Hi-Wax in the hot water to make up wax emulsion. Immerse textiles in the emulsion to attach wax on the surface of the textile, then dry heating.

Availability

It is possible to improve high-speed sewing, tear strength and texture.

Recommended grades

Shrink-proof: 4202E, 4051E
Sewing improvement: 4051E, 4052E
Texture improvement: 2203A

Textile treatment agent
Texrile Treatment Agent
Release agent for injection molding
Uses

Add pellets of ABS, PS etc. and Hi-Wax to the injection molder.

Availability

It is possible to express excellent releasability and improve the molding cycle and extrusion properties such as die maintenance.

Recommended grades

ABS: 200P, 400P, 220MP
